Resolving Facebook Errors
Occasionally, Social Media Feed tools will start displaying a message that states "There is an error preventing the social media feed from displaying. Please check back soon" instead of the most recent posts. This occurs when there is something hat stops the CMS4Schools system from accessing the posts.
Identifying the Error
Follow these steps to discover the specific cause of the error:
- Navigate to the Social Media Module in the Admin Studio.
- Open the "Actions" dropdown for the feed that is producing the error.
- Select the "Check" option.
This opens a page with the specific diagnostic message that we receive from Facebook when we try to connect.
The most common reason for an error is that Facebook detects a potential security issue and closes the connection as a precaution. Facebook doesn't disclose the specifics in an attempt to prevent malicious actors from finding exploits, but this is typically triggered by something like a change in the page's login information or access settings.
Fixing the Error
In most cases, fixing the error is as simple as reauthorizing the connection to the page. The person performing the authorization must have access to the Social Media Module in the Admin Studio and they must be an admin on the Facebook page. However, they don't need to be the same person that authorized it originally; anyone with the correct permissions can assume responsibility for it by performing the authorization.
- Navigate to the Social Media Module in the Admin Studio.
- Select the blue "Authorizes" button in the Facebook section. This may say "Re-authorize" if you have gone through this process before.
- If you are not logged into Facebook already, it will prompt you to do so. Double check to make sure that you are using a Facebook account that has admin access to your Facebook page.
- If you have authorized a connection before, you will have the option to reconnect using your previous settings. We recommend editing the previous settings instead to ensure that they are correct, especially if you are troubleshooting an issue.
- Select the "Opt in to current Pages only" and pick which pages CMS4Schools should have access to.
- Review the permissions that CMS4Schools requires for the page and click "Save".
- Re-check the feed to ensure that it is valid now.
If the feed still is still running into an error, please reach out to our support team. We will work with you to get it fixed.
